Chet Love is an attorney, business executive, policy strategist, and media commentator whose career spans financial services, financial technology, energy, emerging technology, and public affairs. Throughout his career, he has worked at the intersection of business, law, and government—helping companies navigate complex regulatory environments while contributing to broader conversations about economic policy, innovation, and opportunity.

Fresno Roots and Education

A native of Fresno, California, Chet attended Clovis West High School, where he competed in track and field. He later attended Occidental College, competing in both football and track and field.

While at Occidental, Chet served as freshman class president and represented students on the college’s Board of Trustees. He graduated in three years with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. At age 21, he entered the University of San Francisco’s joint law and MBA program, completing both his legal and graduate business education.

Legal and Financial Services

Chet began his legal career advising financial institutions on consumer finance, regulatory compliance, and structured financial transactions. As an associate at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, his practice included federal consumer protection laws and complex financing arrangements.

He subsequently held senior legal, compliance, and executive roles with organizations including Rabobank, Dividend Finance, DigniFi, and other financial services and technology companies. In these positions, he advised executive teams and boards on regulatory compliance, corporate governance, risk management, commercial strategy, and operations across multiple jurisdictions.

Energy Policy and Renewable Finance

Chet joined SolarCity in 2014 and later continued his work at Tesla following its acquisition of the company. His responsibilities included renewable energy policy, electricity markets, consumer protection, and solar finance.

He was named as a co-inventor on a published U.S. patent application associated with the MyPower solar loan. The financing model was designed to allow homeowners to pay for solar systems based on the electricity produced while retaining ownership of the system.

Chet has also contributed to national energy-policy discussions involving utilities, regulators, lawmakers, and private-sector stakeholders. His work has addressed electricity-rate design, distributed energy resources, energy efficiency, consumer finance, and the regulatory structures affecting emerging energy technologies.

Blockchain and Emerging Technology

Chet has advised blockchain, digital-asset, and other emerging-technology companies on regulatory compliance, corporate strategy, and financial structuring. He has also worked with lawmakers and regulators on the development of legal and policy frameworks governing blockchain technology and digital assets in the United States.

Public Policy and Civic Leadership

Chet has long been active in nonprofit and civic organizations focused on civil rights, public policy, economic opportunity, and community advancement. He served on the executive committee of the Sacramento chapter of 100 Black Men of America.

He also served on the executive committee of the San Francisco branch of the NAACP and chaired its Legal Redress Committee. In that role, he led efforts to assist individuals facing discrimination and mistreatment involving the criminal justice system, education, housing, and other civil-rights matters throughout the Western United States.

Chet helped to start and continues to advise the Caldwell Institute of Public Safety, New America Strategies, Influence America and a slew of other socially and civic minded organziations focusing on expand economic opportunity, improve public policy, strengthen communities, and create better outcomes for all Americans.

Chet is a published author and political commentator whose work focuses on energy, economic regulation, technology, and public affairs. His written commentary has appeared in various publications.

He has also appeared as a guest commentator on Fox Business, Newsmax, Al Jazeera, CNN, C-SPAN, and other television and radio programs, offering analysis of American politics, energy policy, economic issues, and emerging technologies.
