A native of Fresno, California, Chet attended Clovis West High School, where he competed in track and field. At Occidental College, he competed in both football and track while serving as freshman class president and representing students on the college's Board of Trustees.

After earning his B.A. in Economics in three years, Chet entered the University of San Francisco's joint law and MBA program at age 21—building the legal and business foundation that would define his career.

Chet began his legal career at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, advising financial institutions on consumer finance, regulatory compliance, and structured financial transactions.

He later held senior legal, compliance, strategy, and operating roles with Rabobank, Dividend Finance, DigniFi, and other financial-services and technology companies—advising management teams and boards across multiple jurisdictions.

At SolarCity—and later Tesla following its acquisition—Chet worked across renewable-energy policy, electricity markets, consumer protection, and solar finance. He was named as a co-inventor on a published U.S. patent application connected to the MyPower solar loan.

He has also advised blockchain, digital-asset, and other emerging-technology companies on regulatory compliance, corporate strategy, and financial structuring while engaging lawmakers and regulators on the rules governing new markets.

Chet's civic work has included leadership with 100 Black Men of America and the NAACP, where he chaired the San Francisco branch's Legal Redress Committee. He has served in board leadership with the Joseph Rainey Center for Public Policy and supports organizations working to expand economic opportunity, strengthen public policy, and improve community outcomes.

As a published author and on-air commentator, he brings that same combination of practical experience and public purpose to conversations on American politics, energy, economic regulation, technology, and culture.
